Progress on MDG

When I read the article, I felt that a lot of people are really trying to reach the Millennium Development Goals. 10,000 might sound as a small number if you compare to how many children are dying before the age of 5. However, that is a huge process, this change gives people the belief that we can reach the goals, and we can give hope to the people who are struggling to survive. They are making changes by giving them vaccinations and food that has Vitamin A. A lot of countries donate money from their income to help these people. We need everyone to give attention to them in order to make further progress. Then we will be able to give them more medicine, food and we can build schools for the children. I was surprised that the number of children who dies before the age of 5 lowered 30%! Almost a third of the death was reduced. That tells me a lot about people who are helping and trying to make changes to reach the goals. We can reach that goals by making small changes, we can reach that goal when everyone is involved in this process.

Peace Day Discussion

We can't live without peace. We need peace to survive. Peace is also linked to development, when there is no peace, there is no development. For example, there are countries who have land mines some where in their lands or farms or schools. We can't build a school or any buildings for medical service because the land mines will explode during their constructing. All the farmers, workers and children are always worried because wherever they are standing, there could be a land mine somewhere. So, a place like Africa or Laos, there can't be any development because of the land mines. Also, in a lot of war zones, there are child soldiers who weren't educated, and they have to watch and do the violent things like burning people and torturing people. Sometimes, the girl soldiers are sexually abused and it takes a huge amount of time to rehabilitate these young soldiers because their minds are all messed up and terrified. To make developments, the children have to go to school so that they can think deeper. We can't leave those children in a place with horror like war zones.

From our peace day 2009, our global issues class raised RM 1,800!!! That is a lot of money to help people to get food, get vaccination, and get their children to go to the school. I am very proud of the amount of money that we raised and also i am proud of myself because I took a part in this activity.

Playing For Change

The message in this video is that if we take and action together, we can make a difference. In this video, people from different places play the same song, ‘stand by me’. They are different from each other, but they have the same thinking about peace, they believe that they could inspire people about peace with music.

I realized there are a lot of ways to make a change. I was surprised that people play songs about peace and it inspires people to join them for change.

Music inspires people and it gives people feelings and emotions. Music has contrast/changes, which create different feelings, and it shows the meaning of the music. The meaning of the music gives people beliefs that they can all make a difference. A change always starts with a strong belief, so with all the beliefs from everyone, playing for change a can make difference.

This is important because it inspires people to make a change. Music gathers people together. The belief gets people together to make a change. That’s how we can make a change.
